Industry-leading academic preparation
Central College offers a CASCE-accredited strength and conditioning major for students pursuing careers in a wide variety of settings. Through classroom study and hands-on coaching experiences, Central’s program prepares students for professional opportunities. Students are exposed to applied sport science and research utilizing the Catapult GPS system and Hawkin Dynamics force plates. For more information contact Dr. David Pavlat.

Hands-on coaching experiences
Each student completes a series of hands-on practicum classes to develop the skills required to be a strength and conditioning coach. The curriculum includes:
- Advanced videos and professional articles
- Daily hands-on coaching experience working with teams and athletes at Central College and through a unique partnership at Pella High School
- Opportunities for additional experience through summer internships with Division I programs across the country


Results
After successful completion of the program, a strength and conditioning graduate will be able to:
- Teach all movements involved in Central’s program, including the hang clean, hang snatch, front and back squat, push press, push jerk, split jerk, DB and BB lunge, bench press, incline press, glute/ham raise, and more.
- Lead groups of athletes through their training program.
- Apply sport nutrition knowledge and evaluate athletes’ nutritional profiles.
- Understand program design and implementation for a variety of athletics teams throughout all phases of their training (in-season, off-season, pre-season).
- Complete the Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist professional certification through the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
