Men’s cross country, men’s track and field
An honors graduate from Central in 1982, Muyskens was the 1981 Iowa Conference men’s cross country MVP. He was a two-time NCAA Division III Men’s Cross Country Championships participant, leading Central to a national team berth in 1980 and earning an individual spot in 1981. Muyskens was also a three-time NCAA track and field qualifier in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and a three-time league champion in the event as well. He was a two-time team co-captain in cross country, a track and field co-captain in 1982 and team MVP in both sports. Muyskens earned a doctoral degree in chemistry from the Univ. of Wis.-Madison and is a chemistry professor at Calvin College (Mich.), where he has taught since 1989. He spent a year as a visiting scientist at Columbia Univ. (N.Y.) and later at the Univ. of Calif.-Riverside.
