Harold De Bie '65

Men’s basketball

De Bie graduated as Central's career men's basketball scoring leader with 1,308 points and set the single game rebounding mark with 20. He now ranks as Central's third-leading career rebounder and fifth-leading scorer. A three-time all-Iowa Conference selection and a team MVP, De Bie led the Dutch to an 18-7 record in 1964-65, matching the school's season wins record.
De Bie, who starred for Valley Christian High School in Cerritos, Calif., returned there after graduating from Central and taught for 40 years, including 37 years as athletics director. He was the boys' basketball coach for 28 seasons, compiling 506 wins. De Bie is a former president of the Southern Calif. Interscholastic Basketball Coaches Association and a member of the organization's Hall of Fame. He guided his squad to the state finals once and to the semifinals five times while winning 10 league titles. He also coached football, cross country and golf, continuing to coach after retiring from teaching in 2005.
