PELLA— The doubles point was the difference for the Central College women's tennis team in a 4-3 win over Monmouth College (Ill.) Saturday afternoon.
Playing a lineup with three freshmen making their debut, Central (1-0) took two out of three doubles matches to start with a 1-0 lead.
Madi Whalen (senior, Kansas City, Mo., Park Hill HS) and
Millie Wolfe (freshman, Iowa City) won 6-1 at No. 2 doubles as
Madison Price (junior, Ankeny, Centennial HS) and
Liv Allely (freshman, Council Bluffs, Lewis Central HS) won 7-5 at No. 3
The two teams split the six singles matches. Wolfe won 6-4, 6-4 at No. 2 singles,
Kennedy Harms (freshman, Grinnell) won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3 singles and Allely won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5 singles.
A majority of Central's returning starters competed at a tournament at Truman State University (Mo.), results of which are not yet available.
The Dutch open the American Rivers Conference season Tuesday at Buena Vista University at 4 p.m.
