PELLA— The Collegiate Triathlon Coaches Association released its Scholar All-American teams Wednesday and six members of the Central College triathlon team were cited.
Individual Scholar All-American status is given to athletes who finish in the top 21 at the National Championship meet in their division and maintained a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher during the fall semester. Honorable mention is given to any athlete with a 3.5 GPA who competes at the national meet. To earn the team award, programs must have a team GPA of 3.2 during the fall semester.
Grace Benson (junior, Newton), Luci Laidlaw (junior, Pella) and
Adeline Koritz (freshman, Clinton, Ill.) all earned Division III Scholar All-American accolades.
Koritz, an undeclared major with a 3.59 GPA in the fall, finished 10th in Division III. Benson, an English major with a 4.00 GPA in the fall, finished 16th in Division III. Laidlaw, an instrumental music education major, with a 4.00 GPA in the fall, finished 18th nationally.
Estella Allen (freshman, Newton), Katelyn Freeman (junior, Castle Rock, Colo., Castle View HS) and
Sophie Lunning (senior, Mason City) were also CTCA Scholar All-American honorable mentions.
Central was one of 33 teams to earn the Scholar All-American team honor.
