KIRKSVILLE, MISSOURI— Upperclassmen led the Central College women's tennis team in a battle against a Division II opponent.
Central (4-3) got a pair of singles match wins from
Abbie Den Adel (senior, Ankeny, Centennial HS) and
Jayden Kissack (junior, Clinton) in a 5-2 loss to Truman State University Wednesday.
The Dutch were swept in the doubles matches losing that point to Truman State (4-0).
"We battled well," said coach
Ryun Ferrell. "We had a chance to take four out of six singles matches against a Division II opponent."
Kissack got the first win for the Dutch at No. 4 singles 6-2, 6-1. Den Adel also got a win at No. 5 singles 6-4, 6-1. The squad was close to taking two more singles matches, losing in third set tiebreaks.
Kalina Schubert (senior, Newell, Newell-Fonda) lost 10-6 and
Emily Mosley (freshman, Burlington) had to retire due to an injury in her tie break.
"(Kissack and Den Adel) played like upperclassmen should by taking care of business," Ferrell said.
The team sends individuals to the ITA Division III Midwest Regional in Saint Peter, Minnesota Friday and Saturday.
