ROCK ISLAND, ILL. — The Central College women's tennis team couldn't keep pace with Augustana College (Ill.) Friday night in a 6-3 loss.
The Dutch dropped to 9-10 on the season while the Vikings improved to 9-11.
"That's a really good Augustana team," coach
Ryun Ferrell said. "We took another step forward as we prepare for the conference tournament in a few weeks."
Jenna Mitsuko Mahoney (sophomore, Misawa, Japan, Robert D. Edgren HS) won both of her matches. She started with an 8-4 No. 2 doubles win with
Becca Vala (junior, Omaha, Neb., Elkhorn HS) before adding a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles.
The other winner for Central was
Lauren Gano (freshman, Johnston) recorded at No. 6 singles, who was a 6-3, 6-4 victor.
Central hosts NCAA Division II Truman State University (Mo.) on Wednesday for a 4 p.m. match. It's the regular season finale for the Dutch.
"We've got one more match to put it all together before we start the conference tournament," Ferrell said.
