DES MOINES—Securing the team title in all three categories in which it competed, the Central College dance team had a great day Thursday at the Iowa State Dance & Drill Team Association Championships.
Entered in the NCAA Division II/III level for hip hop, jazz and pom, the Dutch were victorious in all three categories. It's the fourth year in a row Central has competed the trifecta.
Scores are tabulated by four different judges giving scores out of 100 and averaging the four numbers together. Central's highest-rated performance was a 92.5 in hip hop. The Dutch scored a 92.25 in pom and a 91 in jazz.
At the awards ceremony, Central was given the "Be Bold" award from the Dance Team Union company for their song selection and choreography. They also received the Judge's Choice Award in the jazz category.
"This team may be young, but they are bold," coach
Lexi Gbogbo said. "Their work ethic and dedication to early morning practices definitely showed out on the performance floor today. We are excited to continue our streak of winning first in all three categories and to continue representing the Dutch to the fullest."
The Dutch will vie for its third straight American Rivers Conference title at the league's championship in Storm Lake on Sunday, February 16.
