DECORAH — The score was not indicative of the performance of the Central College women's tennis team in a 9-0 loss Friday afternoon at Luther College.
Luther (8-1, 6-0 conference) has won six matches by a 9-0 margin, including against four other American Rivers Conference opponents. Coach
Ryun Ferrell was pleased with Central's (4-6, 3-4 conference) performance.
"That was the best tennis we have played yet, by far," he said. "We played as well as we could, they are just a better team right now. They are beating everybody pretty soundly"
Ferrell cited No. 2 singles player
Alex Griggs (senior, Knoxville) specifically for her effort in a 7-5, 6-3 loss.
"Alex played vey smart," Ferrell said. "A former coach from Luther told her that she played one of the smartest matches they'd seen. It's always neat when somebody recognizes what you did and compliments you."
Central is on the road for its last dual of the season Saturday morning at 10 a.m. at Wartburg College.
"Wartburg is an interesting team," Ferrell said. "They have played really well in some of their matches. We'll be ready to go tomorrow."
