KIRKSVILLE, MO. — Playing on the road at Division II Truman State University Wednesday afternoon, the Central College women's tennis team lost 9-0.
The Dutch (3-4 overall) used the midweek competition to rest key members of the lineup that beat Coe College last weekend 5-4 and get some younger plays some match experience.
"I told the team that I was demanding a lot of from them with a match like this," coach
Ryun Ferrell said. "By the end of the match, we had players doing things they weren't able to do before. Our players have to get pushed and find some things out about themselves so they are able to get better."
Jenna Hernandez (sophomore, Slater, Ballard HS) and
Hailey Swan (junior, Bloomfield, Davis County HS) lost 8-5 at No. 3 doubles and
Abbie Den Adel (freshman, Ankeny, Centennial HS) and
Alli Kreider (sophomore, Norwalk) lost 8-4 at No. 1 singles.
"We actually looked really good in doubles," Ferrell said. "We had chances to win at No. 1 and No. 3 but came up a little short.
Freshman
Jennifer Larson (freshman, Johnston) had the closest singles match, losing 7-5, 6-2 at No. 3.
"Jennifer came out of the box really fast and looked really good," Ferrell said. "She had a little bit of a hiccup and then towards the end found her ground again."
Central hosts Nebraska Wesleyan University in Pella at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.
